Godot or Game Maker 2?

I'm thinking to make some games, so I can improve in pixel art and learning the fun world of making my first videogame. But I'm not sure if I should use Game maker 2 or Godot. I probably gonna try both, but still maybe some recommendations can be good so I can decide better between both.

I dont know both. I only know construct, unity and scratch lol

depends on how much programming your willing to learn. the game maker family in general has a pretty nice visual scripting language, where as godot's visual scripting is (IMO) really bad, so you would want to go with the former for that.

Meanwhile, while I haven't used gm2's scripting specifically, godot's built in language blows game maker 1's out of the park, and that's coiming from someone who hates indend base syntax.

As for my overall opinion, I think godot is the better engine between. It's less restrictive on how to use it, it has native linux support for both export AND editor, and it's free. Again though, if you struggle to wrap your head around traditional programming, GM2 will probably be easier to use, as I have yet to find decent learning material for godot's visual scripting.

A tip for making pixel art for games from experience. Keep your sprites on even sized squares (8x8, 16x16, 32x32 and so on). This makes tiling, mirroring sprites as well setting hit-boxes easier.

I used Game Maker years ago, it's fun to mess around with. If you really give it your all, you can make good stuff with it. Although that's true for most software.
Unity is a solid choice, it is rather overwhelming in the beginning, though.

What Genre of game are you thinking about making? That should probably influence your choice as well. For a RPG you could try out RPG Maker. Also, modding games could be a good exercise if you are just looking for training in Pixel Art, like GameBoy Advance games.

I was thinking on a platformer, yeah is something basic, but it's one of the best genres to begin with (I think, haha)

@Katzenstrand @HeyPixel Then I suggest Game Maker would fit you nicely. Maybe try making some walking animations before jumping into that. If you load to much on yourself, you might be prone to giving up on it, which would be a shame, because you are clearly capable of producing fitting Pixel Art for a platformer.

Yeah! The art isn't the problem, but maybe the program a game can be really tricky to do!

I use Clickteam Fusion 2.5 myself for pixel art and animations. It's primarily a game and app making tool. It's easy to pick up considering you don't need to know programming to use it. It uses visual based scripting.
