So, yeah. I was thinking on making some commissions. But I'm not sure how much I should pay. Maybe 1$? Maybe more?

Also you know that I promise a draw and then the draw is posted... Three months later.

This doesn't mean I couldn't make a commissioned draw. But I'm also unsure if my skills are good enough for that. So I'm asking you if I should open comm or something.

I promised to do this on my birthday. So here we go! This will be a small blog were I will explain some ways you can make better art. This is mostly for new artists.

1-Experiment a lot

One day I met one person. This person was drawing in his own art style. Wich it wasn't very good. And they acknowledged it. They said "I just like my art style! I don't wanna change it!". And it's okay! You don't have to change your art style too much. It's your art, as long as you enjoy doing it, go ahead!

However, I also think you should try something else. Why you don't try to make eyes in other way? Or maybe you could use other ways to make hands. Or you should be using other type of shading!

Most of the time, it's going to be something really bad. And that's okay! You need to fail a lot in order to succeed. These fails will make you gain experience. Experience that you may need in order to boost your confidence. Trying new things made me evolve from this

To this

Mostly by experimenting and keeping the good parts of all my attempts. If you wanna improve, try new things!

2-Use references

This is something I don't even do.

I should do it.

Please use references. There's a lot on internet. And that will help you to make better art. It will help you knowing how to draw perspective, drawing muscles, shading, human anatomy, etc. I'm sure you can find one reference on Newgrounds. But Pinterest, Pixiv and Deviantart (I think) has a lot of these images you can use to improve your drawing.

3-Show your art to friends

If you aren't sure about one drawing you made and you don't wanna post it, why not sending it to a friend? Extra points if they're an artist too.

iu_757548_9168561.png

They probably will point you out the mistakes in the drawing. And that's what you want. It's easy to get better if you know were you struggle the most. And you probably can review your own art. But most of the time you won't be able to see all the mistakes you did

I already said it. But it was thanks to others people comments I was able to improve very fast.

And speaking of comments...

4-Be nice when commenting

I think this is obvious, I don't need to explain this.

Being an asshole will not give you good results. If you don't like a drawing, don't comment or try to be respectful. Everyone can accept an opinion when you're not being a piece of trash.

5-Create a habit

Try to make a draw each day. Even if it's just a stickman. But create a habit of drawing every day. This is important!

Making a drawing each day is like doing five push-ups each day. At first it's nothing too impressive, but after a month you start seeing the results.

In art is the same. If you wanna improve, draw every day. Try to keep this ritual alive and you will see how far you can go with only doing a drawing a day.

But you can also draw one thing and the next day draw two things. The point is you keep doing it. Even I keep it up with some doodles every now and then.

6-Try to search for inspiration

There's always something you can use to get some inspiration. A song, a comic you like to watch, an animation...

However if you want to make art as your job and you open commissions, I wouldn't recommend this too much. Since not always you will be inspired. Instead try to learn how to work without said inspiration.

7-challenge yourself.

You think you already are good enough?

Okay, try to make a small gif, or a little comic. Or something that you think it can be a challenge somewhat possible. It will make you push your limits really far away. Take it as a test were you put everything you did and expand on it.

It will be hard, but with dedication and experience, you can do it.

And I think that's it! Sorry, but I don't know anything more. So if you have some advices, please tell!

The first one is that

I will start studying soon again. Yay!

This doesn't mean I will start posting less. Since it also means that maybe I can have some ideas meanwhile keep my studies.

Right now, I'm going to study laboratory operations. Or in other words: chemistry.

Also I will study English again, my parents want me to have the C1 degree. So there will be less time to post things, right?

Not exactly

You see, I learned the technique to be quick with drawings. So a normal draw can be completed in 20-40 minutes. So in theory I should be able to post again.

So in theory I will be posting every 2 or 3 days. With the kinda 2-3 weeks of pure creative block.

Also my birthday is in two weeks!

September 22. Ah, I will have 20 years.

I will be old.

But that's good right?

Also I will work on another post. Because I think this birthday I should be the one to actually give you something. I know, that's weird, don't really expect too much from me either. But hey! There's time, so you guys can wait!

Tomorrow I will post another drawing. Honestly, I'm not sure why I didn't wanted to post earlier. Maybe I will try so tweaks to see how it would react. But the piece is pretty much complete.

That's all for now, bye!

It's so nice to see how much I improved, like, comparing my old art in this account and my new one just makes me feel I improved a lot.

I met a lot of cool artists in 2021

@Hatadiux

You where a great friend and I liked supporting you. You did a really cool art. I always liked your chibi art style, it's always great to see your art

Hope to know more of you soon! It was great to know someone who speak spanish like me!

@xDawnshadow

Your art style always looked really cool in my opinion. You have great skill and a lot of potential to do something big. I believe in you and your art! <3

I hope to giving you another fanart soon

@JrBetaAlpha

You're the man, your characters are really cute and I hope keep giving you some fanarts in the future! Your art and things I tried to give you helped me to practice and improve. And your friendship meants a lot to me.

@strangermen

Well, what I can say? You always impressed me with your skill on freakin paint! You did something really cool with something that a lot of people don't really look into. And using something to it's true potential says a lot about what you can give to the world.

@dagger131134

Wow, I never thought I could see someone so cool to send fanarts. The first time I sended you I felt scaried, but now I'm sure that you're a cool person. Your art style is really cute and make me want to give you all of your creations a hug. You're amazing, never forget about it.

And last, but not least

@Katzenstrand

You were the first person who made me want to improve, the first one who actually made me wanna fix mi draws, try to experiment, to learn how to do some things.

And the conversations I had with you were something really fun. Words cannot express how much I really wanna thank you, you helped me with japanese, with art, you always made me laugh with your stuff.

Thank you

Let's see how bad is this next year now, I'm curious about how bad it can be, maybe now there's a meteor to kill us! Like dinosaurs, rawr!

I found my wacom! So I can try to draw now in Aseprite with a pen! You now, like every digital artist does and always looks so amazing. Because you need to put money to gain skill, that's something I learned :D

The thing is... I always use mouse or even the touch pad because I me and pencils are enemies for life. I always struggles with traditional drawing and everything it looks like a pencil. But I think now is time to conquer the beast and try to make some things with this new tool. I try to see if still works, and yes!

iu_362495_9168561.png

Still sucks, but it works!!

I was thinking on trying this more seriously in a Twitch stream so we can laugh of me trying to learn to use the one thing everyone knows how to use except myself because I'm an idiot.

If you feel like your art is bad or people would hate your drawings. Think for a second: everyone start sucking at art.

Nobody draws great in their first time. Even the best artist you know, probably had the same problems that you have now with colors or shading.

One of my first pixel parts was this

iu_354000_9168561.png

It's ready bad. Like, really bad. At the moment it was a blast and really fun to do. I just keep drawing and experimenting. And now I can do some draws like this

iu_354001_9168561.png

It still a wip, but you can say I definitely get better. Sure, it's far from high level, but... It doesn't feel good getting better at something?

Try to search for tutorials, experiment with color palettes and art styles. Try to keep a habit of drawing every day or two days. Just enjoy the ride and you will improve more and more with the time.

And that person who laughs at your art, they need to remember that they also was in that position. Try to help the new artist to improve. Because that kid who makes draws in mobile or with stickmans, in the future maybe could do really nice animations or illustrations.

Remember there's good people in Newgrounds who will cheer you in the end. Because this place is for making the art YOU want to do. As long it doesn't hurt anybody, you can make the art you most like. Remember

Everything for everyone

I hope you keep making art. Because you have the potential to make something amazing. And as long you put all your effort, it's good, even if it's bad (if that makes sense?)

Always try to improve, you can do it ♡

I'm thinking to make some games, so I can improve in pixel art and learning the fun world of making my first videogame. But I'm not sure if I should use Game maker 2 or Godot. I probably gonna try both, but still maybe some recommendations can be good so I can decide better between both.
